Pastor’s Word

After last week’s deep column, I thought I would lighten things up this week and simply offer some reminders of varying sorts.

First, the practical reminders…

1.      If you are planning to give a “gift” from our “Giving Tree”, we could really use them by this Sunday. Specifically, there is real urgency to get the grocery store gift cards in, so we can distribute them the latter part of next week. There isn’t as much urgency for the YEC and Rwanda scholarships, but sometimes it just feels good check an item off our to-do list.

2.      Be sure to start inviting your family and friends to join you for one of our Christmas Eve “style” Candlelight services on 12/23 or 12/24. Both services are at 5 pm and will last an hour. We often have healthy attendance at these services, so please diligently pray for God to prompt those who are far from Him to move toward Him. We have invite cards strewn around the building, so be sure to grab a handful this Sunday.

3.      Come hang out at the Skate Party next Monday night (Dec 17, 5:30 – 8:30 pm @ Roll on America, Lancaster). It is a low-key evening which provides a nice opportunity to just sit and connect with people. You don’t have to be there the whole time…just stop by on your way home from work or whatever.

4.      There is a great Christmas devotional reading plan that Steve put together that is available on our website. Be sure to take advantage of it.

Now the spiritual reminder…

When you combine what we have been learning in Mark with the basic truths of Christmas, please remember that God is there for you. He came to be with us. He lived and died so we could be with Him. He hasn’t gone anywhere. And He eagerly waits for us to turn back and come to Him. So, no matter where you are spiritually, no matter what you’ve done, no matter what is going on in your life right now, please, please remember to experience His presence this Christmas season. It is Christmas’ greatest gift.

See you Sunday.
