Pastor’s Word

I remember it like it was yesterday. The only car accident in my life that was fully my fault. Hunting for a church I was supposed to teach at, I took my eyes off the road for just a moment to locate a landmark I was told to look for, and bam! The traffic light had changed from green to red, the car in front of me had stopped and I rear-ended them, fortunately at a very low speed, although you couldn’t tell from the amount of damage it did to my front-end. Ugh. I would love to have those 5 seconds back as a do-over. Instead, I had to live with it. I felt terrible about shaking up the elderly passenger I hit and was forced to live without my “new” used car for 6 weeks. Man, did I wish I could have a do-over!

Did you know that God gives us a do-over? Its called grace, and He provided an unlimited supply of it when Jesus died on the Cross for us. It releases us from our chains to the past and allows for our lives to be dictated not by our past but by God’s future.  The sad thing, many people are still allowing their pasts to determine their identity, their self-worth, their expectations, their habits…you get the idea.  God doesn’t intend for it to be that way. He has intervened in human history in Jesus to free us from our past, so we can have a complete do-over in our relationship with Him. It’s available, it’s ours, but we aren’t taking advantage of it.

So how do you tap into this “Do-Over” thing? Well, you must live by grace. What does that mean? How? That’s the focus of our current 4-week series: Do Over: Learning how to live by Grace? Mining these great truths will lead to a revolution in living. I pray we will know the truth and the truth will set us free!

Blessings,
