Start Spiritually Strong
Like so many well intended plans, many of us start off strong and courageous. We may decide to read through the entire bible in a year. And that's great. There are plenty of Bible reading plans for that out there. Yet many of us know the realities of finishing such a plan. It just may not happen. But don't get discouraged. Go smaller. So, here are a few plans to get you started that may be doable and beneficial with your busy lifestyle.

You can get great direction and advice by first asking the right questions. The Bible is full of great questions. Some of those questions come from God and some of those you direct towards God. What kind of questions are you asking in 2018?

Ten-Day Word Fast. Are you critical of your boss or pastor? Do you complain about items that have little consequence? Take the challenge in this plan on Bible.com. Fast these words for ten days: complaining, criticism, judgments, sarcasm, and gossip. In these ten days of fasting, the Lord will begin to do a mighty work in the origin of these negative words and thoughts - your heart.
Our words have tremendous power to encourage someone or to hurt them. Our words can create peace or ignite a battle. James, in the New Testament, says that controlling your tongue is like stirring a ship by its rudder or like directing a horse with the bit in their mouth. The tongue is a small part of our body but it is powerful.

Kids Connect will be having team competitions during the winter months. They will be studying the life of Jesus as well as memorizing some of the words of Jesus. Each month, the kids will be challenged to memorize some specific "Words of Jesus." Teams can earn points (which will be represented by ping pong balls) for memorizing verses, bringing their Bibles, bringing a friend, things like that. The teams will be a mixture of classes and ages to keep it fair.
January's Memory Verse: Mark 1:17-18 (NIrV): "'Come, follow me,’ Jesus said, ‘I will make you fishers of people.’ At once they left their nets and followed him.”
February's Memory Verse: Matthew 11:28-30 NIrV “’Come to me, all of you who are tired and are carrying heavy loads. I will give you rest. Become my servants and learn from me. I am gentle and free of pride. You will find rest for your souls. Serving me is easy and my load is light.’”
Read through the Psalms (150 chapters) for the month of January. The idea here is to read "the Psalm of the day" plus the next Psalms when you add multiples of 30 to the day. For example, Jan. 1 would equal Psalm 1, 31, 61, 91, 121. You would end up reading 5 Psalms a day except for when you read Psalm 119 because it's pretty long by itself. One way to accomplish this daily Psalm plan would be to read 2 of the Psalms in the morning, 1 at lunch time, and 2 before bed. You can do it. You have one month to tackle a reading plan. No long term commitment. If you don't finish, you have the next month.
